Who needs 1.25 pounds of hamburger meat?
Somehow, there’s now what appears to be a countrywide cabal that has convinced all the supermarkets to not have any prepackaged hamburger meat sizes besides 1.25 pounds. It used to be (within the past couple years!) that they’d generally be around 1 pound, with some as low as .7 pounds and some up to 1.3 or 1.4 pounds.
Almost every single dinner recipe on earth that uses hamburger calls for 1 pound of meat. Is this just a plan to waste meat or something?
It’s even worse if you want burgers, it was already hard to split 1 pound between two people (mmm, half pound gut bomb), but 1.25 is just impossible. So, we go back to the 1/3 pound each, and are left with another patty and a half to cook and eat the next day or something, maybe with cottage cheese if we want to feel like old people or something.
If I shopped at normal hours, I’d make a point of always getting meat from the butcher in the store, just so they have to waste time making a normal size package.
Grr!
