Dell sure does have a lot of hardware problems

A common problem with their, um, less than great MPT device:
Nov 6 01:23:46 XXX /kernel: mpt0: time out on request index = 0×27 sequence = 0×0719a5e1
The machine is now essentially dead, the scsi controller has pretty much locked up.
It’ll recover a bit sometimes, but the machine is never really back in a working [...]

Slowness of whois requests

What’s up with the whois slowness that’s been going on for the past month or two? It’s almost like it’s intentional to stop email harvesting, but often after the initial lookup took forever the following ones are fast — that’s usually a sign of cache hit vs cache miss.

Worst word from the internet boom

I think it has to be “webinar”. I don’t know who came up with it or who decided it was OK for large companies to use something that sounds that idiotic, but it must be stopped.

Open source ipod?

According to slashdot, there’s an open source ipod brewing. I can’t see how this will end well.
If there actually were one, a few things would come of it:

They’ll find some way to confuse Backspace and Delete on their open source iPod
You’ll download new music and if the music was made after 1999 it will [...]
