Difficult to find acreage/land in washington state
We’re trying to find a getaway property in washington state (currently live in Seattle), but it’s almost impossible to do any of it online. The ideal place would be:
5+ acres
Power available
Small cabin ready to live in
Creek/river
Septic
Water
1.5 - 2 hours from Seattle
~$50,000
We have a slightly different profile than many people would for what we want — we don’t care if the entire property is swampy or whatever, as long as there’s enough space to build on. We don’t want to log it or build a big house or anything, the rest can be a wildlife refuge or estuary or whatever.
Pretty much the only stuff available online is the big development companies (tacoma land company, frontier northwest, etc) who buy up ranches and improve (power/water/phone) them, then resell in smaller parcels. We looked at one place in Eastern Washington that was nice, but it was a 4.5 hour drive with no traffic. No cabin or anything, and they wanted $42,500 for it, so it just wasn’t quite the right value for us. Neat place though, and it was beautiful out there.
There’s some places available in the little nickel, and the cool thing about them is that they have RSS, so with rss-to-email, I get an email when there’s new stuff matching my search criteria.
I haven’t found any other decent places to search for land, just lots of MLS searches, but not much turns up besides the developer things. It’s always so weird when you want to actually spend money, and aren’t able to find a place to spend it.
It makes sense though, since people who have small cabins in the mountains aren’t big internet people, but I just have no idea where to start looking for stuff.
It doesn’t help that I have like 8 free hours a week either.
