Dell problem #112315

So, we have some dell 1850s (possibly the worst designed 1U server in the world) that we’re stuck with for now. We need to add another drive to some of them for customers. Because of the awful support/service we get from them, we usually just get the drive somewhere else and buy their overpriced caddy directly from Dell.

This customer is in a big hurry, but since the 1850s are pretty much useless we don’t keep the caddies for them in stock. We sent a request to our sales rep at around noon, and he replied around 1pm (decent response time) that he had sent a request to his “Software and Peripherals Specialist” to find out the SKU, then would get a quote back to us after that. Here it is now 4pm PST, they’re all gone for the day in texas, so it’ll be at least tomorrow before we get the quote back and we can order it, who knows when we’ll receive them.

This *should* just all be on their website, so we could order them directly and painlessly, but apparently even the sales reps don’t have access to the information.

They’re big and slow and there isn’t anything you can do about it!
